How to Care for Monthly Coloured Contact Lenses

A complete guide to caring for monthly coloured contact lenses — daily cleaning routine, storage tips, common mistakes, and when to replace early.

A monthly contact lens gets you 30 days of wear per pair — but only if you care for it correctly. Here is the complete care guide for GEO colored contact lenses.

The 30-Day Rule

Every GEO contact lens is a monthly contact lens. That means each pair has a 30-day lifespan from the day you first open the blister pack — not 30 days of actual wear. Open a pair on Monday and it expires 30 days later, even if you only wore it five times.

Write the date on the blister pack the first time you open it. It is the simplest way to stay on schedule.

Daily Contact Lens Routine

Before putting in your lenses:

  • Wash hands with soap and rinse thoroughly — no moisturiser residue on fingers
  • Check the contact lens for damage or debris before inserting
  • Inspect the lens is right-side out (edges should curve upward, not flare out)

During wear:

  • Maximum 8 hours of wear per day
  • Never sleep in a contact lens — GEO lenses are daily wear only, not extended wear
  • Avoid swimming or showering while wearing lenses
  • Use rewetting drops designed for contact lenses if eyes feel dry

After removing:

  • Rub the contact lens gently in fresh solution for 5–10 seconds per side — even with no-rub solution
  • Rinse with fresh contact lens solution
  • Store in a clean case filled with fresh solution — never top up old solution
  • Let the empty case air-dry face-down on a clean tissue

Contact Lens Case Hygiene

A dirty case is one of the most common causes of contact lens infections. Replace your case every 3 months — or whenever the rubber seal shows wear. Rinse it with fresh solution (never water) after each use.

When to Replace Early

Replace your contact lens before 30 days if you notice:

  • Blurry vision that does not clear
  • Persistent irritation or redness
  • Protein deposits that do not clean off
  • A tear or notch in the lens edge

Warning Signs — Stop Wearing and See an Optometrist

  • Red, sore, or light-sensitive eyes that persist after removing the lens
  • Discharge or unusual secretions
  • A noticeable change in vision

All GEO colored contact lenses are ISO 13485 and CE certified and manufactured to strict quality standards. Proper care is the other half of safe wear.
